It’s always good to keep an organisation “on the move” and responsive. As such, we like to encourage people to join the Board of Directors, even if only for a relatively short time. Everyone has something to offer, such as work or life experience, personality, or the ability to think around problems, which combine with the talents of rest of the members of the Board to create a healthy outward-looking, evolving Board. There are some requirements: owning a flat at Altamira, and upholding the terms of the lease (in which we are guided by Mark Gobby, our Property Manager at Blenheims). Occasionally we press-gang a target, and each year at the AGM we ask for nominations/volunteers.
What’s involved? To begin with, it’s entirely voluntary. There aren’t even any expenses allowable! There is one meeting a year, held shortly before the AGM, and the AGM itself. Very occasionally, if something occurs that needs face-to-face discussion, we’ll have an extra meeting, but everything is usually discussed and decided by email. Time wise, probably half an hour a week, although the time cost increases when there’s a particular project or a problem.
As a Board our main ethos is to make Altamira a pleasant place to live as far as we’re able. If you think you may be able to help do please approach one of the directors for information, or email on info@altamiratopsham.org.
